Pregnant women and children in Haiti are suffering as a result of poor health care conditions. Statistics show that 1 out of 44 Haitian women will die from pregnancy related causes in their childbearing years (as opposed to 1 in 4,300 in developed countries). Additionally, Haiti has the highest infant mortality rate in the Western hemisphere.
The good news is that simple, proven interventions can prevent 63 percent of deaths in children under five years old (USAID report on Haiti, 2008). Therefore, the purpose of the Daniel Project is to provide wellness education, health screening and spiritual counseling for pregnant women and children. We believe as we help to meet the physical needs of pregnant women and children, their hearts might open to receive the message of the Gospel.
